Why ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Star Patrick Stewart Won’t Attend Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
Patrick Stewart, the star of the hit science fiction television series Battlestar and its spinoff Battlestars, will not be participating in Star Trek: 50th anniversary celebrations at San Diego Comic-Con, a spokesperson confirmed to the Associated Press on Monday.
Stewart’s absence from the festivities comes on the heels of his recent comments suggesting that the new Star Trek film was being “blocked out” of the celebration.
Stewart was in attendance for the last day of San Diego’s 50 years of Star Trek, and it was announced on Monday that he will not attend the festivities due to health concerns.
The Trek fan community has been quick to respond to the news of Stewart’s ill health.
Some of Stewart and his fans have taken to Twitter to criticize the cancellation of the 50th-anniversary celebration.
The cast and crew of Battlestargames have expressed their concern about Stewart’s health, and said he is a “huge Star Trek fan.”
They also expressed concern over the recent decision to delay the release of a sequel to Battlestartar.
“Patrick has had some health issues,” tweeted actor Jason Isaacs, who plays Captain James T. Kirk on the series.
“We hope he can come out to San Diego and celebrate the anniversary.
We just want to get to know him better.”
Stewart has not confirmed any health concerns and did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Associated Public Radio.
